Dallas

  • There have been a number of reports online that Patrick Troughton stories may have aired in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in 1972, before the Jon Pertwee stories went into syndication that year.
  • Several newspapers for that area have been checked and no evidence of such screenings has been found.
  • It's possible that what the eyewitness saw was a broadcast of one of the Peter Cushing Dalek movies (it was Roy Castle and not Patrick Troughton who the viewer remembers) or possibly - but less likely - transmissions of a William Hartnell story (in Spanish) from Mexico; but only in exceptional atmospheric circumstances could TV signals travel those sorts of distances.
  • It has also been suggested that these might have been transmissions from one of the nearby US military bases, however the AFRTS (see Armed Forces Network) did not operate any TV stations within the continental USA; the AFRTS was exclusively for military bases located in countries where English was not the primary language.
