  • 29 January 1979: While other US stations were screening the newly-syndicated Tom Baker stories, Qube station in Ohio concludes its 12 month run of Jon Pertwee stories, bringing to an end the intermittent seven-year run of broadcasts of the third Doctor in the USA. (But he'd be back in 1983...)
  • April 1979: Pinnacle Books Inc publishes the first two of the American editions of the Target novelisations. They retail for $1.75. Ten titles are published (cover price increases to $1.95), with the last in March 1980 (although the titles are still reprinted (with the logos in different colours) until at least 1982):

  • September 1979: Terry Nation relocates to Los Angeles.
  • 1 December 1979: The first American Doctor Who convention is held in LA, with guests Terrance Dicks, Tom Baker and Graham Williams.
  • In an interview with Starlog magazine (issue 34, cover dated May 1980) conducted at the December 1979 LA convention, Tom Baker says his episodes had been sold to 65 stations, although it was certainly far more than that.
