Whose Doctor Who was broadcast on BBC2, on Sunday, 3 April 1977 (the day after part six of The Talons of Weng-Chiang had aired); it was part of the "Lively Arts" series, and was presented by Melvyn Bragg.

Various clips were featured, with those of the first and second Doctors extracted from the pitiful selection of black and white episodes that still existed by late 1976, with Pertwee clips in black and white or colour, again depending on the format of the still-existing material.

The documentary received its second-ever screening 13 years later - on Sunday, 23 September 1990 during BSB's special Doctor Who weekend.

It appeared on the 2003 DVD release of The Talons of Weng-Chiang (where rights issues with some of the content did for a time place some doubt on whether it could be included), and most recently on the 2020 Season 14 Blu-ray box set.

As far as can be determined, Whose Doctor Who was never purchased or aired by a foreign television station, despite BBC Enterprises publishing a sales promotional sheet for it. (Some of the US stations aired a documentary called Doctor Who's Who's Who, but that was an entirely different production, made by the New Jersey Network in 1985.)
